This is a building that I saw in our neighborhood this week.
Here’s a close-up. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a building with this kind of design before!

The Global Podcast Editors newsletter
…is a space where we share heaps of recent podcast editing business, technical and creative conversations and resources along with our own professional bumps in the road and ultimately, our growth in the space.
Hi Wavie,
We’re about a month away from leaving Valencia, Spain. Wow has time flown by. It’s reaching 98F/37C this weekend, so I’ve taken more time off this week to socialize so I can stay indoors on these super hot days coming up. Will be hiding inside. Hope you’re cool/warm depending on which season it is in your hemisphere.

As a Podcast Editor
…I’m playing more with video because discoverability
I’m feeling a definite push and pull with the technical side of podcast editing and podcast growth. And this has led me to spend much more time with videos for podcasts. Let me tell you why and then show you how I’m doing it.
What’s the struggle?
I want to learn how to make audio sound better. More sound clean-up skills, better leveling, and EQing skills, and so on. But so many times I’ve seen my clients get frustrated by how their podcast wasn’t growing. And I can’t help but ponder, what good does great-sounding audio do if few people are listening? I have a feeling that we believe, as podcast editors, that if the podcast sounds good, listeners will come. Maybe this was true in the past but it doesn’t at all feel true now.
A possible solution: video?
We keep hearing that every podcast should have a YouTube channel. I disagree that every podcast should. I hate that word, s-h-o-u-l-d. But I’m leaning more and more towards using it in this context.
☕ Podcast Editing Espresso Shot: Podcast Editing Course
Here’s what GPE community member Jesse says about his new, much-anticipated course:
“Are you looking to level up your editing skills? Maybe you’re self taught or relatively new to editing and looking for a course. Podcast Editing: Level Up is a practical course that teaches you how to use the typical tools used to clean up, mix, edit and master your episodes.
Here’s the link to the syllabus too.
The pre-launch sale is available until August 30.

GPE Google Group
👀 Here’s some feedback we got on our GPE Google Group.
Steve Sanchez:
“It's always a great moment to see that we aren't alone. That we all share the common ups and downs of being Freelance editors. Whether it's a new equipment question, asking about a job, or advice on a tech or client issue. There are no silly questions. Just honest answers.”
How do you join our GPE Google Group for timely community messages, conversations, and job alerts?
All you have to do is become a premium newsletter subscriber.
Paid subscriptions are $5/month or $50 a year. And founding members get even more benefits!
Remember, you, the professional podcast editor, can probably expense this newsletter. This is a global community so I can’t speak to every country regarding this so please check your local income tax and business laws for specifics.
Also, if you’re in a country that Substack payment does not work but you’d like to subscribe, please contact me for an alternate payment method.
As Business People
…how much of our outreach converts to podcast editing work
Samual Jacintho and I have been chatting a lot lately about finding more podcast editing work. He’s landed some pretty interesting gigs lately so I had to ask if, well, I could ask him some questions about t
How do you look for podcast editing work?
My main sources when looking for new editing jobs/clients are Facebook groups (audio, audio editing, plugins, podcast editing, and management), LinkedIn, and the Global Podcast Editors newsletter and email group.
But for now, I’ve only managed to acquire new clients from Facebook groups (90%) and recently, one from the GPE Google Group.
What's your success rate at applying to these jobs?
For the last 2 months I've been applying to at least 2 positions per day minimum and I landed 2 clients. That's somewhere close to 3.33% success rate, or even less if you count the days on which I sent more than 2 application forms.
How do you attract clients?
☕ Business Espresso Shots:
Live streaming your editing. Rachel Hanson just started her YouTube channel where she’s live streaming her editing. There are SO many advantages to doing this if you’ve got the energy for it, including increased exposure for your clients. More of that editing + audience growth combo I mentioned above.
Jennifer, Angelina, and Filip talked a lot about struggling with making conscious choices in their businesses during this recent chat. I found Lauren’s recent episode of The Podcast Manager Show, Internal resistance you may face when building a business you actually enjoy, a direct connection to these struggles. I found it useful to sort out my own decisions as well and I think you will too.
Want To Attract More Clients? (workshop)
Looking for work AND having clients find you are two different ways to get remote podcast editing work. We share jobs you can apply to in the Google email group but for client attraction, we’re doing small and actionable workshops online.
In these workshops, I’m combining a lot of the information I’ve learned from others and from my own experiences with splashes of accountability and sharing them with you in a 90-minute client attraction workshop.
We'll be focused on what actionable steps you can take to attract the podcast editing clients you want with genuine outreach and conversations.
This is an interactive session with a maximum of 4 people.
Our next workshops are on
Wed, August 17th (full), email me to get on a waiting list.
Wed, September 14th (open)
NEW: Wed, October 12th (open)
You can sign up for one of them OR all of them, depending on your client attraction needs. I’ll be adding even more workshops to the calendar soon.

As a Podcaster
…I’m debating how much I can keep creating non-business content
I’m struggling, you all. Struggling hard. I want to keep GPE going AND a podcast that’s not podcasting related. But by wanting to slow down and go deeper on skills it means that I’m working on less. Less for me, anyway. It’s still a lot but it feels like my manic productive days are over. Like chin beards.
“Just” outsource
I’ve got an entire micro-season of Geopats that I need to finalize and publish before September and all I can do is obsess over the 21 videos that I want to split up and upload to the GPE YouTube channel. I know! “You should outsource, Steph.” Easy for you to say, you relaxed individual. I’m a bit of a control freak. I’m loving outsourcing the GPE audio for dialogue editing because the podcast managers who are doing it are on it. They’re focused, on time, and on point. But so few people I’ve worked with are like that. And when I do find them, they move on quickly.
Publishing cadence
As I’m going through this head-meets-wall creative time, I read this in Podcast Bestie, and it summed up my feelings to a T.
So with two ongoing podcasts, what's a cadence and frequency that allows me to build and strengthen my relationship with listeners, yet still leaves room for lots of other creative projects without going insane?
I already ….
Watch me test out my new mic holder on Wednesday
Oh, I also got a new mic holder this week. I put off getting a holder with a clamp for ages because we’re moving so often and boom arms are too big and clunky for my one suitcase life. But when I searched on Amazon Spain this week I saw this one and decided to try it. So far it’s just been sitting on my desk but I’m trying it out LIVE…
…during this event next Wednesday!
I’ve been talking about this for a few months now. This is the project that my machine learning genius husband and I have been working on.
The official spiel:
With Engagement Bunny podcasters get a list of Twitter peeps that already listen to content in their category ALONG WITH engagement ideas (cause we don’t always know what to post).
We want to show you exactly how this works during this LIVE demo. We'll be answering questions from the chat room so we hope you'll join us.
Secret info:
We’ve been approached by non-podcasters already asking if this tool can be used for other purposes. And yes it can. That got me thinking that we could create a version for podcast editors. If you use Twitter a lot and are interested in this service, you will want to watch our LIVE demo Wednesday. Check Eventbrite for your local time. Don’t ask me to do timezones, I posted the event for Sept 17th initially cause covid brain fog is very, very real.

In this session, LWC Studios founder Juleyka Lantigua will deconstruct the essential components of highly effective short-form audio, such as
trailers
promos
ads
previews
audiograms
and more.
She will analyze a selection of such audio pieces that introduce a show with confidence, connect to the listener on an intellectual and emotional level, display a high degree of sound design, and accomplish the essential elements of each type of audio piece. Structure, pacing, "the business" and mold-breaking innovations will be reviewed to help you create the most engaging short-form audio to complement and enhance your podcast.

I’m cheating. This is not coffee but horchata, spelled Orxata in Valencian (the local language). And those are two fartons, which can best be described as long, super soft and chewy donuts. Yup, they’re yummy. The horchata, ummm….
The next newsletter will be out Thursday, August 25th.
Until then…DAWingly yours,
