#64: So many places to audio go
And Platonic ideals are not allowed to come along (but you can!)
This is a flashback photo from Lake Atitlán in Guatemala circa May 2005. The sky looked like this naturally. No filters or color adjustment. It was a beautiful place.

The Global Podcast Editors newsletter
…is a space where we share heaps of recent podcast editing business, technical and creative conversations, and resources along with our own professional bumps in the road and ultimately, our growth in the space.
Hi Wavie,
With the flip of the calendar next week we’re rapidly approaching our shift to Bucharest, Romania. I’ve been watching more and more videos on the city and getting to know the folks in the local Bucharest Facebook expat group. And while my head is partially in Spain and Romania right now, I’m also wrapping up the production for a micro season of Geopats, where we’re talking to expats who grew up with immigrant parents. So my head is in many cultures. I love it but I honestly forget where I am some days. #occupationalhazard
Okay, let’s get you info drenched!

🎧 As a Podcast Editor
…I’m letting go of the platonic ideal of a podcast editing workflow
Sometimes I dreamily sigh at the idea of having a singular focus and one Asana, Trello, or Airtable board with all my clients and projects neatly arranged and updated. I imagine all the time I could save not switching mental gears when I switch projects with different workflows. I've never been someone to do one thing. I'm an explorer, emotionally, geographically, and workflowly (yes, Grammarly, this should be a word!) Have you noticed? But something happened recently that made me realize this switching is a feature, not a bug. And that there are many advantages to it.
How different can the workflows be

These daily sound design prompts from The Audio Storyteller newsletter can help you experiment your way into upping your sound design game. I especially like this one…
“1. Pick a scene from your favourite book and sound design it.”
…because I love books. In fact, right now I’m reading, “The Secret Thoughts of Successful Women” by Valerie Young. Which brings me to this request.
📚 Podcasting Courses
Here are some newer podcasting courses that I think you’ll like.
Podcast Management: Lauren Wrighton’s Podcast Management Program. No surprises here, right? I’ve been in the course for a month now so can 100% vouch for its amazingness. Lauren’s no-frills approach gets folks off to work quicker than any program I’ve seen in a while. I’ve been podcasting for over 5 years, and podcast editing for clients for over 2 but still find the business side painful at best. My favorite parts are the clear templates and advice in the weekly office hours calls and the private Facebook community.
Best Podcast Courses for All Schedules, Most of this post is written for newer podcasters and such BUT at the end, there are a few advanced courses listed. I think you may find those helpful.
🤷GPE Imposter Syndrome Series
Have you seen our new imposter syndrome conversations with Rachel Hanson and Matt Cheney? Would love to have more of these convos. If you’re comfortable recording a video for the GPE YouTube channel, go ahead and schedule a time.

GPE Google Group
👀 Here’s some feedback we got on our GPE Google Group.
From Sam Jacintho:
“The Google group is awesome as it is a part of the system that the Global Podcast Editors is becoming. It is a ‘more alive’ part of the newsletter where Steph can share anytime her awesome job findings and we can participate actively as a true community.”
How do you join our GPE Google Group for timely community messages, conversations, and job alerts?
All you have to do is become a premium newsletter subscriber.
Paid subscriptions are $5/month or $50 a year. And founding members get even more benefits!
Remember, you, the professional podcast editor, can probably expense this newsletter. This is a global community so I can’t speak to every country regarding this so please check your local income tax and business laws for specifics.
Also, if you’re in a country that Substack payment does not work but you’d like to subscribe, please contact me for an alternate payment method.
💰 As a business person
…I’m making data-informed decisions
Even though I'm struggling with my podcasting narrative, I feel propelled to move forward with both podcast editing AND audience growth projects. And when you add something to your schedule you need to remove something, right? So I took a look at the GPE podcast and YouTube stats to see if they could help me decide what to let go of. Guess what I found and how it helped me decide?
The data

In the Client Attraction workshop, we talk a lot about the types of posts you can share online to not only attract attention but show people who you are, what you can do, and what’s important to you.
This tweet from Suzy of The Casual Birder podcast was not posted to get clients but it is an excellent example of all of the attraction elements mentioned above.
Doesn’t this make you want to get to know her more and see what else she’s doing?
PS The Casual Birder newsletter is back!
💰Want To Attract More Clients? (workshop)
Looking for work AND having clients find you are two different ways to get remote podcast editing work. We share jobs you can apply to in the Google email group but for client attraction, we’re doing small and actionable workshops online.
In these workshops, I’m combining a lot of the information I’ve learned from others and from my own experiences with splashes of accountability and sharing them with you in a 90-minute client attraction workshop.
We'll be focused on what actionable steps you can take to attract the podcast editing clients you want with genuine outreach and conversations.
This is an interactive session with a maximum of 4 people.
Our next workshops are on
Wed, August 17th (full), email me to get on a waiting list.
Wed, September 14th (open)
NEW: Wed, October 12th (open)
You can sign up for one of them OR all of them, depending on your client attraction needs. I’ll be adding even more workshops to the calendar soon.

🎤As a Podcaster
…I’m damn proud! And scared.
I’m actually on track to publish all 4 of the next Geopats micro season this weekend. It’s my most personal season yet and for once, I’m a little terrified of releasing episodes into the world. Why?
It took months to do simple edits
