#47: Remote Work & Client Attraction Tips
Greetings wavies,
I got an email from a Geopats listener a few days ago from one of our China-focused episodes and it nudged me into reflection mode. I went back and looked at some old photos from my time in Shanghai, China from Jan 2017 to Jan 2020 (we also lived there a few years before that but from 2017 to 2020 was our most recent time there.) I came across the above photo from a marriage market in People’s Park in central Shanghai. Stop judging the folks in the photo, that’s not what this photo is here for. This is a connection to how you promote your podcast editing services. Can you guess?
Share what you can offer where people are looking for your service. That’s it. Although the above marriage market might seem strange to you, it isn’t for the folks who are used to it and even rely on it. Many of you may be more comfortable with dating apps instead so that’s where you go. Bridge this mating analogy over to podcast editing and ask yourself, where are podcasters looking for podcast editors? If you don’t know, go fish!
Alright, let’s get you connected!
-Steph
Here’s what this sub-newsletter will contain:
PART 1: 100% remote podcast editing work; free subscription
PART 2: client attraction tips and advice; paid subscription
Part 1: 100% remote podcast editing work
2 quick things:
JOB TITLES: There are wonky job labels in many of these posts so I’m checking to make sure they’re podcast editing related.
I’M A REMOTE WORK-SEEKER TOO: I’m NOT involved with the hiring process for any of these jobs. I’m looking for jobs along with you and sharing what I find.
#1 Did you see our ASAP job after our post on Monday?

Taking the long view and looking at what Dan wrote in that post:
“Even if this project isn't the one for you, we'd be interested in hearing from you.”
That sounds like an invitation to connect, doesn’t it. Gooooooo!
#2 No more job alerts. Well, sort of.
Even though this is only #7 of this new job alert & client attraction sub newsletter, it’s growing and changing again. And it’s good. I’ve been looking at your reaction to the 6 previous issues and listening to your feedback and I think this change is going to rock.
Starting Monday, June 7th, the remote podcast editing work & client attraction newsletter will be:
on Mondays only, 6 pm Croatia time (12pm New York, 9:30 pm Delhi, 1 am Tokyo, etc, etc)
will contain a website, newsletter, or search term I’ve used to find some juicy podcast editing jobs recently. This scheduled weekly sub newsletter will NOT contain specific jobs. Hold on, they’re not gone.
organic, whoa I just saw OR was sent this remote podcast editing work postings will go out as they are birthed into the world. Well, that was an interesting choice of words. Hmmm. Basically, when they come out they go into your email inbox from the newsletter. Waiting till a fixed publication date has made some of the ones I found get pulled offline AND then I also feel bad emailing you too much when real hot off the press ones come on. This adjustment solves both of these problems.
all of this will continue to change and grow. Feel free to email me or comment with feedback on any of this.
will still contain the client attraction tips and stories in the premium subscription, which you can get a 7-day preview of any time, by the way.
You, the professional podcast editor, can probably expense this newsletter. This is a global community so I can’t speak to every country regarding this so please check your local income tax and business laws for specifics.
Coming soon: Independent Production Houses
As mentioned last week, I can’t shake the idea that listing work from independent podcast production houses would be way more fruitful for you. So, starting today, I’m reaching out to 2 of these every day to see if they want to be a part of this newsletter. If you know of any that may want to get involved, please let me know. Thanks.
In the works: Monthly Online Face to Face Remote Podcast Editor Meeting
There’s an idea brewing about us having a once-a-month face-to-face (aka, video) meeting. We’re thinking of a few minutes of a tip or trick from someone in our community AND then some chatter time where we check in and hear from you. What are you working on? Do you need any help? Are you looking for more work? Do you need tech help? And so on and so on.
Would you be interested?
If so, reply with YES, LET’S HAVE A MEETING in the email subject line.
I’ll have more specifics in tomorrow’s full newsletter.
