This is some of the wall art we saw on our Alternative Bucharest walking tour last weekend. Oh, it was so good!
The Global Podcast Editors newsletter
…is a space where we share heaps of podcast editing business and technical conversations about podcast editing for clients.
On alternate Mondays, we’re covering the podcast editing technology AND the business side of podcast editing for clients. If there’s a 5th Monday, we’ll cheer in textual silence.

Hi Wavie,
I’ve been spending a lot more time at the park this week, looking up at the clouds and watching them glide through the sky. (And tasting various Romanian treats, like this chimney bread). It appears that they have no plan. They’re being tossed around by the elements, right? I honestly don’t know. I took an Astronomy course in college but never Meteorology. But it looks like they are going with the flow up there.
As summer turns into fall here in the Northern Hemisphere, I find that my own motivation is shifting. I’m going inward. I’m slowing down. Is that me being tossed around by elements too, lol, or just yearly seasonal sleepiness?
No matter the answer, one thing is certain: I've got motivation on the brain this week. Mine, my clients, my readers (you!), my YouTube viewers, my podcast listeners, my client’s listeners, and more. Why, why, why do we do the things we do? And why do we want to? Maybe it’s a season of reassessment.
Before I finish my cup of chamomile tea (it’s evening. I can’t drink even my decaf coffee this late), let’s shift to getting you info drenched. Then you can question various motivations on your own. wah ha ha.

GPE Virtual Monthly Meet UP
Thanks to Cornel, Charles and Steve for joining us for the last GPE Virtual Meet-Up. We chatted about podcast turnaround time, folks who come into podcast editing from an audio engineering background, if there should be regulations on podcast audio standards, Descript, and listeners versus editors ears, and more.
These events happen on the last day of the month and are free. Unlike the GPE live chats on YouTube, these are NOT recorded. We ask that you bring a question to the meeting and we will collectively try to answer them the best we can. If you don’t have a pressing question, just come to answer other editors’ questions or just to hang out. No pressure here.
The next one is Monday, October 31st at 8 pm Translyvania time (I’m in Romania now so the joke keeps on giving), which is 1 pm, in New York.
Business Connections: International Podcast Day
Conferences are hard because there is a surge of information and then nothing. I’ve got a system now to remind myself to review the contents that I didn’t consume during the conference for weeks or months afterward. It’s so simple. Can you guess? I just add a repeat reminder to my Google Calendar. This one says “watch another International Podcast Day video”.
It repeats on Saturdays in hopes of a loungey morning watching videos.
I wrote about my recent IPD video watching in Podcasting Globally last Friday, but I’d also like to share a recent Twitter Spaces I did in celebration of IPD. It was with Jennifer Navarette, Founder of National Podcast Posting Month: #InternationalPodcastDay: @stephfuccio Global Podcast Editors (««« click here to have a listen)
FEATURE: Client Motivation
In a very meta way, I was reading a Substack article on the reasons that newsletter readers pay for subscriptions. Bear with me, I think you’ll find this thought experiment quite useful in your own podcast editing business.
The more I stared at this table…
A table from People & Company’s Get Together resources.
….the more I realized that it very much so applied to why our podcasting clients pay us to edit their podcasts.
They provided some questions to help you get clear on what the PRIMARY motivation you provide is. Here’s ….
☕ Business Espresso Shot: A Global Economics Moment
I remember at the beginning of the pandemic, one of my business-savvy friends mentioned the phases that the global economy will go through because of the situation. My head was still spinning then so I don’t remember the exact terms he used for the stages but it etched a roller coaster in my mind while he was talking. So here we are.
This Ezra Klein episode with Adam Tooze is important because it has a global lens. It focused on connectivity. As global remote workers, we need to be aware of the economic swaying that’s going on in most places right now.
Most of the meditations that I do for chronic pain stress that relaxing helps lower the pain sensations, even though it does not remove them. I recommend this episode as a way NOT to panic about the bumps in the economic road that we’re going through. Globally. Remote workers’ stability is delicate. My hope is that being aware of what’s happening can help with whatever financial pain we personally experience.
Podcast Editing Pricing Example: Pod Sound School
My hope and dream is that someone will come up with a pricing hotline. This would be a place where we can all call them up (or maybe message them too), tell them the context and services requested and they would give us a suitable pricing range to consider charging clients.
But that doesn’t exist yet. So instead, I like highlighting real-life examples of what editors charge for their services. Normally I grab these examples from publically available podcast editor websites but today I’ve got something special.
Pod Sound School (NOT a sponsored post)
It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of the content that Pod Sound School puts out. It’s practical, accurate, and helpful. I’ve never taken a course from them. I haven’t taken a course from them yet (I’m eyeing the Reaper for a podcasting course but I’m really busy with Lauren’s Podcast Manager Program at the moment).
And I recently saw the Work From Home Editing Podcasts // $50 - $100 Dollars an Hour video of theirs and thought it would be good to share because of the specific pricing examples Steve gives. I’ll show you the packages and break down the good and not-so-good aspects of them (spoiler, they’re mostly good).

How Much Do Podcast Editors Make?
The Podcast Editor’s Academy is doing its annual survey on many things editor related. If you have a few minutes, please complete this survey (no matter where you live!). I’ll share the link to the results when they’re published.
Networking Reminder: Leave Your Podcast Bubble
What group (online OR in person) have you spent time in this week that has nothing to do with podcasting? Be honest! I know how alluring the podcasting bubble is but for work-life balance AND planting seeds for new clients, it’s important that you network (aka, meet and connect) with people who are not IN podcasting.
Mine?
I went to a book club today in Bucharest. We talked about books, language, culture, and more for 3 hours and there was not one mention of podcasting. It’s a Facebook group so if they get curious about me, they can view my links. But for now, it was a delight to meet these amazing women and connect on things we’re passionate about. Oh, it was wonderful!

🎈 Our YouTube Channel: We’re Growing!
A sincere thanks to all of you who are participating in our GPE live chats, our tutorials, our imposter syndrome videos and of course, those of you watching these videos. And for the comments, like the ones on our recent International Podcast Day celebration video.
🎈 2023 schedule
I’ve been doing more Twitter Spaces as a guest lately. In fact, last week I was a speaker in Arielle Nissenblatt’s International Podcast Industry Chat along with Minachu, Josephine Karianjahi, Mae Thomas, and Matt White.
Should we do a monthly GPE Twitter Spaces?
And it’s got me thinking, should we have one of the two GPE chats on Twitter Spaces? I’d be curious what your thoughts on this are. Please DM me to let me know if this would be more appealing to you than being on video. Don’t get me wrong, we’ll keep going with the video chats and this would be added to the mix. One audio, one video. I kinda like the idea. Hmmmm.
