From London, England, 2019 when getting on a plane, for me, was a part of fun travel
Greetings wavies,
We fly to Valencia, Spain on Thursday so I’ve got travel on my mind, thus the above photo is from a trip we took in 2019 before travel got super crazy. This time we’re not traveling, we’re digital nomad moving, country shifting, whatever it’s called if it even has a name.
So I appreciate the distraction of writing this newsletter while the uncertainties of our selected newness unfold in a few days. Too dramatic? Yea, maybe but this is how I feel. I future stress like a pro, for better or for worse. This comes in handy when looking for work/clients because I search like a dog on a bone. I am stubborn and don’t stop until I find what I need.
Are you like this?
If you’re reading this, I’m thinking the answer is yes. You’re my people and I get you. So let’s get to today’s work search deep dive, shall we?
This Monday Work/Client Newsletter Contains:
places where I’m seeing remote podcast editing jobs
job titles that have remote podcast editing work in them
info of smaller production houses so I can work with them to bridge a gap
client attraction tips that I hear others talking about (for experimentation) and also ones I’ve accidentally or intentionally done/used in the past
Today I want to dig into the overlap in audio work and podcast editing work, and if there even is any. Podcast editing is such a new field that it seems like the only thing we can do sometimes is to look at like spaces to find ourselves. This kinda reminds me of this panel from my dear friend, Laura Joyce Davis of Shelter in Place, where she and her panelists compared writing to podcasting.
And of course, I’ve got some new websites that share audio jobs that you may want to check out. I make zero promises with this because these audio folks, well, they appear to take our deep divey tendencies and go ten times deeper. Diver beware, lol. Even so, it’s worth a peek.
As I mention in every stinking issue, wonky job labels are common in podcasting and I’m down for digging into them to see which are the most useful for us to be using while looking for remote podcast editing work.
Let’s do this!

What is audio work?
I’m still trying to figure this out.
From podcast audio to sound audio
What happened was that last year a dear friend recommended the book, Studying Sound by KC Collins. I admit that I didn’t go through the entire book with a fine-tooth comb, but the parts I did absorb, and I mean that word in its fullness, I absorbed and rejoiced. The way that they wrote about sound was both approachable and exciting. So when I saw that KC had a Twitter account, the hop from book to Twitter was fast.
And from following their Twitter feed for almost a year now I can say that audio IS exciting. The resources, community, and really stinking cool articles on sound that KC tweets are exhilarating.
But what is audio work?
From the book, it was clear that music is part of this world but not entirely. KC shared examples from film also. And I’m sure there was more. So although my fascination with sound outside of podcasts has expanded because of their work, I still don’t have a clear idea of what this means from an employment perspective. If that’s even a clear thing to define.
And that’s where a new Facebook group I found this weekend comes in: Audio Jobs.
Disclaimers here and everywhere: these are NOT remote or podcasting focused. But they do look like a start to understanding the potential of what we might be able to do IF we choose to follow sound as a whole instead of just podcasting sound, podcasting audio.
No, No, No, I’m not breaking up with podcasts
Don’t get me wrong, I have no intention of stopping my work on podcasts. Not at all. But I’m, probably like you, a lifelong learner. And I like to know what the way is broadly and specifically at all points in my explorations. Would I turn down an audio gig should I be technically and otherwise qualified? H*** no. Not if it’s a good fit for my purse AND my soul. I am kind of searching for an audio program in Europe that can complement my audio podcasting life.
I adore podcasts. There’s something really special about the human voice that isn’t replicated in any other sound. Not even water, which is one of my favorites.
Possible sound work action: Follow KC on Twitter to get article and job alerts as they post them
I’ve added “sound” to my job alerts and if I see any work that’s podcasting editing AND remote specific, I’ll send be sure to email it to you via this newsletter.
In the premium part of our newsletter today I’m writing about how to turn audio work postings into client attraction moments, a new perk to premium subscriptions, a community celebration moment, and more.

UPDATE: So far we have 3 yeses.
See ya next Monday from Valencia, Spain!

PS this photo is NOT coffee but orzo, a barley-based caffeine-free alternative to coffee. I loved the ones we found in Albania but this photo is from a coffee shop in Italy, where this drink is incredibly common.
