#65: Moka Monday
For whoever needs it: Please be kind to your audio self today! What we do is hard.
August 29, 2022
I loved how the foam heart lasted til the very end of this cortado.
Hi Wavie,
I’ve been hearing about lots of tech layoffs lately and it made me pause and reevaluate my expectations. I’ve had a few projects pause starting because of the economic downturn and heard other freelancers in and out of podcast editing mention a prolonged slow period. I’ve been waiting for the job market to recuperate so that some form of normalcy could be sprinkled into my chaotic life. But I think a reframing needs to happen.
Stress is when reality doesn’t meet my expectations.
I can’t change reality BUT I can change my expectations.
So, with my readjustment hat on, I think this is a great time to upskill, dig deeper into what we’re already doing (to do it better!), and, in general, relax and not take this slower time personally.
For those of you not experiencing a slow period, lol, feel free to ignore the above.
With all that in mind, let’s get you some quick hits of upskilling and community to enjoy this nesting time.
Steph
Jobs
Last week in our GPE Google group we shared 4 job opportunities. Last week I added the links to the newsletter but that’s neither time-efficient for me nor fair to the premium folks who contribute to that space. The good news is that anyone who signs up for the GPE Client Attraction Workshops (next section) now has access to this group as well.
Here’s a sneak peek at what we’re sharing.
If you’d like to be a part of this group, you know what to do….
Freelancing/Running a small business is hard:
Be Gentle With Yourself Recommendations
☕ Podcast #821: Routines Are Overrated, The Art of Manliness
☕ Sidney’s website: relax into the layout. Get inspired. Make some changes to your own website (small incremental changes, don’t go perfectionistic!)
☕ Making Friends with the Enemy — Your Best Strategy, Today in Digital Marketing. My paraphrase of this reassuring episode is competition is bull****.
Client Attraction
There are 2 ways to get podcast editing work, right?
1. look for work, apply, and get accepted
2. clients find you, have a discovery call and decide to work together
In this workshop, we're focusing on #2, client attraction.
This is an interactive space where we get deep down into your online presence and find quick things you can do to make yourself more discoverable, more likable (usually by being more of yourself online instead of all business), and clearer on your website or main services page. We cover the three steps in the client attraction flow above (the purple ones!)

Expats with Immigrant Parents
I did it!
My expats growing up with immigrant parent season of Geopats is out in the world. You can listen on your favorite podcast app or here AND watch on YouTube. I have so much creator info to share in the next full newsletter but this has been such a growth experience for me, technically, promotionally and emotionally.
I welcome and appreciate any and all feedback. Thank you.
GPE Community Events
You can now join our GPE Google Calendar to see all our events.
