☕ #90: Constant growth
A sculpture in downtown Turin. Please don’t ask me where this was exactly, our first weekend was a blur of gorgeous architecture and I didn’t get any details.
👋Hi Wavie,
I’m back! 3 days in Rome and then a loooooong train ride up to Turin is where I was last week. The the visit to the secret place embassy. That went really we,,, by the way. Can you believe that after months of dreaming about the pistachio brittle that I showed you in the last newsletter, they did NOT have it available when we got there last week. The nerve! Ah well, there was plenty of other food to enjoy, including my new favorite cookie with ricotta and cherry filling. No photos, I ate it too fast. Sorry not sorry.
This week includes 2 tech issues:
Today: Editor’s highlight and announcements
Wednesday: a regular tech issue
Let’s do this!

🧐Changes to GPE chats, Google listserv, paid subs
Due to lack of participation, I’m stopping the following items.
Google Listserv: closing February 6, 2023
GPE chats: all cancelled
Paid newsletter subscriptions: I’m pausing the premium subscriptions for the time being. When the format and content of the newsletter settle down I’ll make a more permanent decision. For now, all GPE newsletter content is available to everyone.
Courses: now live. One available now and another one coming in February.
I’m going to return to writing the newsletter as the pure joy experience it is for me and leave the community building to others.
👀 Podcast Editor Highlight: Jen Edds
Jen Edds, the Head Broad in Charge at The Brassy Broadcasting Company, was kind enough to share some of her podcast editing experiences for us.
1.What DAWs have you used and why? Which do you use now?
I started out using Logic Pro because I was familiar with using it for music production. I made the switch to Adobe Audition a few years later because it just worked better for my podcast production workflow. Specifically because of the Loudness Match Feature and the Loudness Meter. Both are incredibly helpful for ensuring a consistent volume level throughout the episode.
2. What's 1 business tip you wish you knew when you started editing for clients?
Watch out for scope creep. Be clear with your clients on what is and isn’t included and then stick to it.
3. How do you usually get podcast editing work?
The majority of my new editing work comes from referrals. It usually comes from a client that hires me to help them launch their show. Then they decide they also want help with the editing.
4. How do you structure your pricing?
I have an hourly rate for consulting, a package price for podcast launch services, and two tiered pricing for editing services.
5. What's your biggest business OR technical goal for 2023?
I would like to shift the focus of my business from editing more to the consulting and podcast launch services. The combination of getting to be strategic and creative with a new podcast launch lights me up.

The folks in my Turin coworking space just made coffee for the office. It’s 530pm. Even when I could drink regular (not decaf) coffee, I could never drink it this late. #jealous
See ya Wednesday,
